MANILA -- Actress Jennylyn Mercado has starred in a number of successful romantic comedy films, and her supporters refer to her as the romcom queen. She has given award-winning performances in all of her films, and is now returning to the genre with her upcoming movie "Everything About My Wife."
Responding to the tag “romcom queen,” Mercado told ABS-CBN News, “Siyempre, thankful. Hindi naman lahat ay nabibigyan ng chance na magkaroon ng title na ganoon. Masaya ako na ganoon ang tingin nila.”
The Kapuso actress then talked about her latest film with Sam Milby and husband Dennis Trillo. In the film, Mercado plays Imo, who finds herself in an unfortunate situation where her husband Dom (Trillo) is unhappy in their marriage, while Milby portrays Miguel, a notorious womanizer. They all discover each other's strengths and shortcomings as their lives intersect.
“‘Yung role ko rito ay typical na misis. Nagsimula sa ligawan at naging mag-asawa. Pinakita kung anong nangyayari sa isang mag-asawa,” she told ABS-CBN News.
Praising her co-star Milby, Mercado added, “Isa siya sa mga pinakamagaan na katrabaho. Napakabait na tao. Napaka-pleasant. Masarap ‘yung experience.”
According to her, she is still learning the intricate details of producing, having recently produced her newest film.
“Sa ngayon, hindi pa naman ganoon kalaki ‘yung production pero marami na kaming natututunan. Masayang makipag-collaborate sa ibang productions,” she said.
As her schedule for 2025 becomes increasingly demanding, Mercado is pleased to share that her youngest child is learning to cope on days when she and her husband are not around.
“Sa ngayon, naka-adjust na siya. Tine-test muna ngayon. Actually end of last year nakikita na namin na puwede na siyang iwanan. Kaya na niya na wala kami buong araw. Naglalaro na siya. May mga schedule na siya. May playtime na siya. May routine na siya. Confident na kami na puwede na siyang iwanan,” she shared.
Lucky charm, friendship with Tan
Mercado considers herself fortunate to have such a long-running career. But when asked who her lucky charm is, she replied: “Ever since naman si Jazz talaga. Since nung lumabas si Jazz — siya na talaga (lucky charm) — dire-diretso ang suwerte sa buhay ko. Forever na siya talaga.”
She went on to express her hopes for 2025, saying, “Ang hope ko for 2025, sana maging successful ‘yung movie namin nina Dennis and Sam. Suportahan ng mga tao. ‘Yung album launch ko, abangan nila. May ilalabas kaming singles.”

Mercado celebrated Chinese New Year at the Beautéderm Headquarters of celebrity entrepreneur Rhea Tan in Angeles City. She arrived in style, dressed in a lucky charm outfit.
Both were beaming as they complimented one another on their successful careers. The two are both embracing their roles as career women and mothers, balancing their time between the two.
When asked about her friendship with Tan, she replied, “Isa siya sa mga tinitingala kong tao kapag dating sa business. Alam ko ‘yung story niya nung nagsimula siya at kung paano siya naging successful. Alam ko naman kung gaano ka-loving si Ate Rei. Napaka-generous. Maya’t maya, kinakamusta niya kami.”
Tan, on the other hand, stated that her lucky charm is her family, who has been supportive of her path from the start. She recently launched Audrey, a luxury leather bag brand.
