Actress-turned-politician Aiko Melendez confirmed that she and her longtime partner, Congressman Jay Khonghun, have decided to part ways. This was shared through veteran showbiz columnist and talent manager Ogie Diaz in his vlog earlier this week .
Aiko and Jay had been together for almost eight years before deciding to split.

In her statement, the actress shared that it took several months before they “mutually” decided to break up their long term relationship with one another. She didn’t disclose the reason as to what caused the separation but maintained no third party was involved.
“After four months of reflection and careful consideration, Congressman Jay Khonghun and I, Councilor Aiko Melendez, have mutually decided to part ways and go our separate directions. This decision was not made lightly but comes from a place of respect and understanding of what is best for both of us at this time,” she told Ogie through text.
Aiko then expressed her gratitude towards her fans who showed their support during their relationship. Moving forward, she and her ex-politician partner will be focusing on serving their constituents.
“We remain grateful for the memories we shared and for other support many of you have shown throughout our journey together. Our focus now is to move forward with grace. He in his continued public service, and I in mine, always guided by the values of respect, kindness, and dedication to the people we serve,” she added.

The actress then requested for privacy moving forward as they go on their separate ways.
“We ask for your understanding and privacy as we go through this transition. Thank you for your support and prayers,” she ended.
Previously, Aiko opened up about her relationship with Jay in an interview with Ogie. She shared how he has become a father figure to her children.
“They’re close. He’s the one boyfriend I had my kids found approachable. They go to him when they have problems. Marthena talks to him. He and Andre go out,” she previously said.
Aiko publicly confirmed her relationship with Jay back in 2018.
