OPM singer-songwriter Rico Blanco shared the inspiration behind his musical score for Antoinette Jadaone’s film, Sunshine. This is the first time that the Filipino musician scored a full-length film as revealed by the film’s director.
Sunshine stars Rico’s ex-girlfriend, Maris Racal, who plays the titular role of the award-winning film.

A fan asked on X (formerly Twitter) about the musical scoring used for Sunshine’s rhythmic gymnastics performance.
“Nobody is talking about Rico Blanco's musical score. Are Sunshine's rhythmic gymnastic music original?” the fan asked.
Rico then shared that he took inspiration from electronic music in general and used the conversations he had with the film’s director when he scored the music for the scenes the netizen asked.
“Actually more inspired by electronic music in general. hardly used pegs for Sunshine. more of convos [with] @tonetjadaone re characters, intentions, goals,” he wrote.
The OPM singer added that the musical scoring of the film revolved around the “modernity and youth” which the story of Sunshine revolved around.
“[The] big idea was to add modernity and youth to the story. I have deep roots in the genre kraftwerk orbital reznor depeche ultravox etc and though I love this track, it totally wasn't on my radar then. This is more ‘90s Big Beat,” he added.
“Rico Blanco’s first time to score a full-length film,” Antoinette shared in a separate post.

Previously, Antoinette shared why she chose Maris for the titular role of the award-winning film.
“Meron siyang yung physique of a gymnast. So she’s petite, she’s lean, dancer din siya so meron na siyang gracefulness in her movement–– physicality ng isang gymnast na check niya na agad. Siguro yun yung hinahanap ko sa artista na magpla-play ng Sunshine,” she previously shared.
Meanwhile, Sunshine is entering its third week in over 65 cinemas nationwide. Ticket prices in all SM Cinemas are priced at ₱275 for its Metro Manila malls while ₱230 for its provincial malls.
