Kapamilya actress Bela Padilla has broken her silence and asserted that she doesn’t have anything to do with her uncle Robin Padilla’s political affiliation. On her X (formerly Twitter) account, the Blood vs Duty actress also shared that she had no power in casting her uncle in the ongoing primetime series.
The actor-turned-politician recently joined the cast of Blood vs Duty, a move that drew mixed reactions from netizens.
“Because of recent events, and since I’m being asked daily, I wish to express my thoughts on the issue surrounding the casting of my uncle in Blood vs Duty, and the current situation hounding the Senate,” Bela wrote.
The Kapamilya actress recalled how her “tito Robin” was kind to her and her family when she was growing up, but maintained that the last time she saw him before he was cast in the primetime series was three years ago.
“But as our careers flourished and took different directions, with him entering politics, our personal encounters have become scarcer. Our ideologies also differed. I do not live close to my uncle. I haven’t seen Tito Robin until we shared the same call time last Friday. Before then, I saw him 3 years ago,” she asserted.
Bela added how she had no power to recommend her uncle to join the show as it was “purely the prerogative of the executive and supervising producers of the show,” and she was cast earlier than he was– she took on the project in December while her uncle was a recent addition.
The Kapamilya star then assured her fans that her personal beliefs and convictions have nothing to do with Robin’s political affiliation.
“We are related, but we manage to agree to disagree. I remain grateful to his kindness, but I also maintain an independent and personal sense of being in charge of my career, choices, and convictions,” she ended.
Bela has been vocal about calling out politicians and using her platform to raise awareness among her fans. Earlier this week, she questioned Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa after he was spotted at the Senate Hall.
