Jessica Sanchez opened up about what made her decide to join America's Got Talent season 20.
In an interview with Korina Sanchez on Rated Korina, the singer shared that she was already questioning whether music was still the right path for her before the opportunity came along.
"I was battling the thought of ‘is this for me? Lord what do you want me to do?’ I felt like maybe I should just give up. I've been doing this for so long and then the opportunity came, and I was like okay, you know, I’ll just try it out, I’ll just see what happens," she recalled.
Before the auditions, Jessica discovered that she was pregnant.
"Maybe four days after I was ‘okay I'm gonna do this’, I found out that I was pregnant. I was like, should I still pursue this? And I felt like the Lord presented me with a door and opportunity and I was like it's my job to just walk to the door and see what happens," she remarked. "And I did and I got the Golden Buzzer and I was like ‘okay Lord, I'm going to let you what you want to do and we'll see how far you want to take me’ and then I won and then I gave birth to a health beautiful baby girl."
Jessica also opened up about the challenges of performing while she was nine months pregnant during the semi-finals and finals.
"I was 9 months pregnant so I was huge, I could barely breathe. When I walk upstairs, I'm like out of breath. So, I picked up a lot of bad habits [while performing] because my diaphragm was so squished. I didn't even know how I won," she said.
"But now I have a vocal coach who is teaching me how to sing and breathe a lot healthier. And also people don't realize that the hormones in your body can affect your vocal cords so there's been a lot of changes but I'm learning, every step of the way I'm learning. There's always a chance to grow," she added.
When asked whether she would want her daughter to pursue a career in the music industry like her, Jessica replied: "I don't know. I feel like it's really crazy, it's chaotic. It can be stressful sometimes. I think as long as my daughter does what makes her happy, whatever she loves to do and as long as she puts her one hundred ten percent into it, I think that's all that matters to me. I don't want to force anything that I've gone through into her life. I just want her to have her own journey, and I'll be there to support her."
