Perrie Edwards, member of the British girl group Little Mix, made a guest appearance last June 10 in an episode of Great Company with Jamie Laing where she revealed what it was like to go through her public breakup with the ex-One Direction star Zayn Malik.
“When you go through a heartbreak, it is hellish. You can’t eat, you can’t sleep. You feel abandoned, and you don’t feel good enough, and you feel like you’ve been left for something better.
“What makes it even worse is I felt like the world was then looking at me, laughing at me,” she admitted, looking back at her relationship with Zayn.
When asked about how she dealt with the pressure of having such a personal part of her life on public display, Perrie candidly admitted that she experienced serious breakdowns, leading her to believe that she was depressed during that time of her life.
To rub salt on the wound, Perrie added that she felt like Zayn had an easier time dealing with the breakup because there was a bit of an “overlap” with supermodel Gigi Hadid.
“I think when you’re moving on with somebody else, you always get on better. When you’re the one left behind, that’s when it's hard.”
“And then you have a song that they’ve written about you, but then someone else is in the video,” she added, referring to Zayn's ‘Pillowtalk’ debut single and its accompanying music video featuring Gigi.
In a previous interview at the We Need To Talk Podcast with Paul C. Brunson, Perrie stated that she learned a lot from the aftermath of the relationship. She was only 22 when their relationship ended, and felt lucky to have her Little Mix members to guide her through.
Perrie met her now-husband Alex Oxlade Chamberlain a year and a half later after her breakup with Zayn through Little Mix. “The girls made me go on a date with him,” she said.

Little Mix has been on hiatus since 2022 after concluding their ‘Confetti’ tour, but have reassured fans that they are not splitting up.
