Several Filipino journalists took to social media to share their reflections and behind-the-scenes experiences following the successful coverage of the 2025 Philippine Midterm Elections.
ABS-CBN News reporter Jeff Canoy posted on Instagram a series of photos featuring himself with veteran journalist Noli “Kabayan” De Castro, Bernadette Sembrano, Zen Hernandez, and the rest of the ABS-CBN News team as they covered election day on Monday, May 12.
“14 hours and counting. Kaya pa.jpeg Our marathon coverage of Halalan 2025 continues in all ABS-CBN platforms,” Jeff wrote.
He also shared a throwback image comparing the ABS-CBN newsroom during the 1967 elections with this year’s setup.
“The newsroom in 1967 and 2025 during ABS-CBN’s Halalan marathon coverage. Almost 60 years apart. So many things have changed. In the service, we remain,” Jeff said in another post.
News anchor Zen Hernandez expressed gratitude to the analysts and partners who joined the network’s coverage.
“Shocking election results with unexpected wins and upsets! Huge thanks to our #Halalan2025 partners and analysts Prof. Cleve Arguelles and Prof. Robin Garcia of WR Numero. These results will sure shake things up big time,” Zen shared.
Meanwhile, reporter Anjo Bagaoisan reflected on ABS-CBN’s tradition of highlighting the newsroom’s dynamic environment during elections in the past 20 years.
“One element of ABS-CBN Halalan specials that remains constant: working shots of its journalists, partners & volunteers at the newsroom/war room. Here’s a look back at them over 20 years, to the tune of our #Halalan2025 theme. Anumang hamon, anumang panahon,” he penned.
ANC anchor Karmina Constantino also marked a milestone in her coverage journey, saying: “2025, Day 133. #Halalan2025, done and dusted.β€οΈππ.”
GMA News anchor Emil Sumangil expressed his gratitude after completing his first national election coverage as a main anchor.
“1st time I did this. Thank you, LORD. #eleksyon2025,” Emil said.
He also went on-ground for live reports in Caloocan, saying: “Salamat sa pagkakataon na makapaglingkod ♥οΈMula po rito sa Bagong Silang Elem. School, Caloocan para sa #Eleksyon2025 #InGodWeTrust.”
Fellow GMA News anchor Ivan Mayrina offered a broader reflection on the months-long coverage.
“'Gulatin mo sila.' This pretty sums up how this #eleksyon2025 went. There is certainly a lot to do and make better, but there is also a lot to hope for,” Ivan said.
Former volleyball star-turned-journalist Gretchen Ho also offered a glimpse into her experience covering this year’s midterm elections for the Kapatid network.
“An intense rivalry between two political powerhouses, progressives and liberals finding themselves in the middle, the arrest of a former President by the ICC, a looming impeachment trial of the country’s Vice President, and majority of voters coming now from the millennials and GenZ,” Gretchen listed down.
Reflecting on the significance of the moment, she added: “Truly one for the books βπ»”
