MANILA — British indie-pop band PREP is returning to Manila for its sixth time in the Philippines, bringing its blend of jazz, soul, West Coast pop and Japanese city pop to The Filinvest Tent in Alabang on October 15.
The London-based four-piece, formed in 2015, is composed of Thom Havelock on vocals, Llywelyn Ap Myrddin on keyboards, Guillaume Jambel on drums and Dan Radclyffe on production.
The upcoming show, presented by Karpos Live, marks PREP’s second performance under the concert series. The band last performed in Manila in 2024 at The Filinvest Tent.
PREP is known for songs including “Cheapest Flight,” “Who’s Got You Singing Again,” “Line by Line” and “Pictures of You.” Its music draws from a mix of influences spanning 1970s jazz and West Coast rock and soul, 1980s studio production and Japanese city pop.
The band recently released “One Day in the Sun,” a four-track EP recorded and produced by its members. The release includes “Do What You Gotta Do,” a collaboration with Taiwanese band Sunset Rollercoaster.
The EP continues PREP’s approach of drawing on earlier musical styles while reworking them through a contemporary pop lens.
“That's really what we're trying to do with everything. Take some of the shapes and moods of these earlier generations of music we all love, but rework them into something that we’ve never heard,” Myrddin said.
PREP has released two albums, “PREP” in 2020 and “The Programme” in 2024, along with four EPs. The band has built an international following through its distinctive mix of retro and contemporary sounds.
