Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh is set to star in a new action film.
According to a report by Variety, Michelle will headline The Surgeon movie, which will be written and directed by Roshan Sethi.
Michelle will play a retired surgeon who finds herself kidnapped and forced to operate on a mysterious patient. Although vastly outnumbered, her abductors underestimate her most lethal asset, which is over three decades of surgical expertise.
"I’m so excited to bring something brand new and innovative to the action genre based heavily on my medical background," Roshan remarked on what he looks forward to about the film.
He expressed his excitement to work with Michelle. "I cannot think of a better partner than Michelle, the iconic queen of action who will be using her skills in a different and surprising way in this film, and the producing teams at Thunder Road, 193 and NeoText," he stated.
In 2022, Michelle headlined the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once where she won her first Best Actress Award at the Oscars.
"For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that.... dream big and dreams do come true," the actress remarked during her Oscars acceptance speech. "And ladies, don't let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime. Never give up."
In 2024, Michelle became part of the film Wicked portraying the role of Madame Morrible.
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK in December 2024, Michelle expressed her desire to do more musicals after Wicked.
"I want to be able to dance in a musical. Dancing has always been my first love so now I've sang [in Wicked]. Jon M. Chu (Wicked director), dancing next."
Michelle used to be a ballet dancer before venturing into acting.
On the most rewarding part of her work as an actress, Michelle highlighted that it is being able to collaborate.
"You have to find your people and you have to work together because whether it's a movie, whether it's a TV series, it's never about one actor, one person. It's about collaboration," she said.
