ABS-CBN programs and personalities took home several honors at the 29th KBP Golden Dove Awards, with the network’s news, entertainment and drama offerings recognized across multiple categories.
ABS-CBN News Documentaries won Best Documentary Program for Television, an award that ABS-CBN News Chief of Reporters Jeff Canoy said gives the documentary team renewed motivation to continue producing long-form stories.
“Ano ’to, alam mo naman na nagbibigay ng lakas ’to sa buong documentary team. Matagal tayong nawala sa ere. So the fact na nakabalik tayo at na-recognize ng KBP ’yung efforts natin, napakalaking bagay at parang vote of confidence na ipagpatuloy natin ’yung ganitong long-form storytelling,” Canoy said.
The recognition was also bittersweet for the team following the recent passing of ABS-CBN News documentary cameraman Nestor “Onyok” Depositar.
“In many ways, this is bittersweet for the documentary team kasi a few days ago, nawalan kami ng kasama sa documentary team, si Nestor Depositar. So, inialay namin ito kay Kuya Onyok,” Canoy said.
Canoy added that viewers can expect more documentaries from ABS-CBN News, with long-form stories now being released almost every week across digital platforms and free television.
“Napakarami pang dokumentaryong aabangan. Actually, halos linggo-linggo na ’yung documentaries natin sa ABS-CBN. So sana patuloy na abangan ’yung mga long-form stories natin. Hindi lang sa digital, pati sa free TV. Kung nasaan man sila naghahanap ng long-form storytelling, nandoon ang ABS-CBN News Documentaries,” he said.
