Hong Kong action film 'The Furious' opens July 1 in PH cinemas

Hong Kong action film "The Furious" is set to get Filipino audiences' adrenaline pumping as it opens in Philippine cinemas starting July 1.

Distributor Pioneer Films made the announcement in a press statement.

Directed by martial arts maestro Kenji Tanigaki, "The Furious" follows a father who fiercely battles kidnappers in a bid to save his daughter.

The film, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival before its theatrical release this year, stars Xiao Mao, Joe Taslim and Yang Enyou, alongside supporting cast members Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, Yayan Ruhian, Jeeja Yanin and Sahajak Boonthanakit.

DC Studios boss James Gunn praised the film in an Instagram post, writing: "I didn't think @kenjitanigaki could outdo himself after the spectacular 'Walled In,' but man 'The Furious' really showed him as one of the best action filmmakers working."

Tanigaki is a renowned action choreographer and film director known for his work in Hong Kong action cinema, as well as later projects in Japanese cinema and Hollywood. His body of work includes the live-action "Rurouni Kenshin" films, "Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins" and "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In."
