Selena Gomez and Timothée Chalamet are joining forces to headline the upcoming animated movie Not Alone.
According to a report by Deadline, Timothée will voice Joe, described as "an introverted rocket mechanic" while Selena will lend her voice to Fran, described as a stellar "astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fueled rocket."
The star-studded voice cast also includes Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, Allison Janney, Lamorne Morris, Jamie Demetriou, and Brett Goldstein. The film will be directed by Eric Guillon.
As per its synopsis, the film follows Joe and Fran as they team up to prepare for the maiden launch of a groundbreaking rocket. While romantic sparks quickly fly between the two, neither is very good at dating.
"Life becomes more complicated when three aliens—tiny, unruly and adorable—take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety," the synopsis added.
The movie is set to be released in April 2027.
Selena previously starred in the films Emilia Pérez (2024), Dolittle (2020), and A Rainy Day in New York (2019), among others.
She is slated to make her directorial debut on the third and final season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. According to a Disney press release, Selena will direct the season’s premiere episode and guest-star in multiple episodes.
In a November 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Selena expressed her desire to focus more on acting projects moving forward.
"I think I’ve done just as much as I wanted to do in music, but it’s exciting because I feel like I haven’t even started in film and TV, even though I know I’ve been a part of some great projects and I’m really proud of them," she said.
