MANILA — “Forgotten Island” has made Philippine box-office history, earning P97.2 million in its opening weekend to score the biggest opening for a DreamWorks Animation film of all time in the country.
The animated film grossed P97,236,533 from its opening weekend, according to figures released September 28. It also ranks as the biggest opening weekend for a non-franchise animated film in the Philippines.
The record-breaking opening adds to the film’s strong local appeal, with “Forgotten Island” drawing heavily from Filipino mythology and culture and featuring a star-studded Filipino and Filipino-American voice cast.

Liza Soberano and H.E.R. voice best friends Raissa and Jo, respectively, while the cast also includes Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon and Jo Koy. Filipino artists BINI and SB19 are also featured on the film’s soundtrack.
“Forgotten Island” follows Raissa and Jo, whose lives take different paths after high school. On their final night of celebration, the two discover a magical portal that transports them to Nakali, a mysterious island populated by creatures from the stories they grew up with.
As they explore the island, they encounter both friendly and dangerous creatures, including the dreaded manananggal. When they discover that their memories are beginning to fade, the friends race to find their way home before they forget each other.
The film has also received strong reviews from critics and audiences, with a 95% Certified Fresh rating from critics and a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes as of Sept. 28.
“Forgotten Island” is now showing in Philippine cinemas.
