Taylor Swift is set to add another feather to her cap as she receives a new honor recognizing her work behind the camera.
The pop superstar will be the first recipient of the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.
"Introducing the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, awarded to the visionary herself: @taylorswift 🛸⭐️," the Video Music Awards announced on social media on Tuesday, September 22.
According to a presss release as reported by Billboard, the award is in recognition of the “groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling." It also “celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice."
Fans online were quick to react to the news.
"Queen!! Well deserved!!" one fan commented.
"DIRECTOR OF THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY LIFE," another fan wrote.
Taylor has directed several of her own music videos and films over the years, including “The Man,” “Cardigan,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Anti-Hero,” “The Fate of Ophelia,” and “Opalite,” among others.
Taylor is no stranger to receiving recognition for her work as a director. She is a seven-time nominee and four-time winner of the Best Direction award at the VMAs.
The singer-songwriter is set to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27 in Los Angeles.
The recognition comes on the heels of Taylor’s historic induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame last June, making her the youngest woman to receive the honor.
During her speech at that time, Taylor looked back on her journey as a songwriter and reflected on how the craft has shaped both her life and career.
"I wrote my first song after learning my first three chords. It felt easy to work incredibly hard with this. It felt easy to nurture something I loved so much, to watch callouses form on the tips of my tiny fingers and to become a constant observer of the human condition, because people’s feelings, passions, and motivations have always fascinated me, and it was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life," she said as previously reported by Billboard.
Taylor also shared how meaningful it is for her to see fans connect her songs to their own lives, relationships, and memories.
"Nothing makes me happier than when someone tells me that they used to listen to my music with their parent, and now decades later, they listen to it with their own child. Or that they listen to it with their best friend, or when a couple tells me that 'Love Story' is their song, or somebody does a cute little dance to 'The Fate of Ophelia,' or I hear people in different countries singing 'Opalite' in their own accents, or someone tells me that the song 'Enchanted' gets their baby to stop crying," she stated.
