Reimagines his album track with nostalgic OPM sound
Singer-songwriter JEL REY gives his track “lapit-layo” a fresh spin with an alternate version that draws from the nostalgic sound of classic OPM while retaining the song’s emotional story about choosing between holding on and letting go.
Originally released as part of his sophomore EP “Southbelle 517,” “lapit-layo” captures the bittersweet realization that sometimes, love means letting go even when feelings remain. JEL REY wrote and produced the song’s new version.

JEL REY, whose real name is John Lloyd Reyes, is a singer-songwriter known for his adventurous approach to music. He enjoys exploring different sounds and genres, incorporating elements of rock, hip hop, pop, and soul into his songs.
He released his debut single “hele pono” under StarPop in 2023, earning a nomination for Best Performance by a New Solo Artist at the 37th Awit Awards. His debut EP “TERAPEWTIKA” also landed tracks on Spotify playlists, followed by “Naiilang,” which entered the Top 10 of Spotify Viral Songs Philippines and has since surpassed 515,000 streams.
Last January, JEL REY released his sophomore EP “Southbelle 517,” featuring the single “Gusto Kitang Pakasalan,” which was heard in the second season of iWant’s microdrama series “The Chambermaid’s Daughter.” He recently joined OPM band The Red Strings in their “Live Sessions Tour” in SM City Bataan.
