“Everybody, Sing!” treated viewers to kilig-filled moments last weekend as “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition” Kapamilya Big Winner Brent Manalo joined the “Singko Blangko” segment. Together with the Songbayanang Food Bazaar Crew, they filled in the missing lyrics of Brownman Revival’s rendition of “Ikaw Lang Ang Aking Mahal,” bringing retro OPM energy to the studio.
ABS-CBN Studios put Brent’s lyrical memory to the test in its exclusive “Song Association” challenge, which he completed with wit and confidence.
He kicked off the challenge with the prompt “everybody,” instantly recalling “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” by C+C Music Factory and Freedom Williams, singing along to the iconic track. From a Western dance hit, he seamlessly shifted to Filipino folk music, cleverly connecting the word “sing” to the classic folk song “Bahay Kubo” with the playful lyric, “Sing-kamas at talong, sigarilyas at mani.”
For the next prompt, “good,” Brent turned to “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo, singing its catchy chorus. He then traveled back to 2014 with “Night Changes” by One Direction after hearing the cue “night.”
From international hits to folk classics, the “The Secrets of Hotel 88” star also showcased his knowledge of OPM when the prompts shifted to Tagalog. Without missing a beat, he responded with “Araw Gabi” by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid as soon as the consecutive words “araw” and “gabi” appeared.
The next prompt, “lahat,” led Brent to “Ligaya” by Eraserheads, singing the memorable line, “Gagawin ko ang lahat pati ang thesis mo.” For “ikaw,” he chose “Ikaw,” the viral anthem by Yeng Constantino.
As the challenge continued, the prompt “tayo” brought him to “Otso Otso,” the novelty hit by Bayani Agbayani. To cap off the game, Brent responded to “pag-ibig” with “Pag-Ibig Na Kaya” by Liezel Garcia and Bugoy Drilon
