Ready to feel that spark again? The Philippines’ first queer dating reality show "Sparks Camp" is returning for its fourth season with a fresh batch of campers.
And while we can’t predict just yet who’ll click with whom (the fun is in finding out, TBH), we can start getting to know the campers who are about to make this season worth watching. First on our radar is Tommy Alejandrino, who is set to enter the camp as Mr. Explore-Actor.
If Tommy looks familiar, that’s because you’ve probably seen him on your screens before. The 24-year-old film, television, and theater actor played Kenji in the hit series “Senior High” and its sequel “High Street.” He also earned praise for a "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (MMK) episode where he portrayed the life story of Eugene dela Cruz, a street dweller who graduated with Latin honors from the Ateneo de Manila University.
As he previously shared with ABS-CBN Entertainment, he studied theater for six years at the Philippine High School for the Arts, nestled on Mt. Makiling. But acting isn’t his only talent. Tommy can be very flexible–literally. He trained in gymnastics as a kid.
Tommy has found a tight-knit circle in showbiz, like his "Senior High" barkada which includes Zaijian Jaranilla. But while he values these friendships, Tommy shared that his male co-stars mostly treat him like one of the straight guys. That's why he's looking forward to meeting more people from the queer community and finding genuine friendships that will last even outside the camp.
Love and relationships have always been a little complicated for Tommy. As the youngest of six siblings and raised singlehandedly by his mom, growing up without the typical family relationship model had an impact on how he's learned to view love and intimacy.
He didn't have a straightforward coming-out journey either. Tommy previously dated a girl before eventually entering his first same-sex relationship, which helped him understand his queer identity better.
Tommy isn’t entering the camp pretending he has a perfectly polished dating history. Rather than making excuses for what happened, Tommy seems to recognize these mistakes as patterns he needs to understand and unlearn.
