If not all, many Filipino viewers have long been drawn to television dramas that tackle infidelity, forbidden relationships, and marital betrayal—stories that have kept us hooked from one episode to the next and have become a recurring favorite in Philippine media.
Thus, as iWant and ABS-CBN Studios hop on the vertical micro drama trend that has been taking the internet by storm, they made sure to also include a title that carries these familiar themes among its first wave of releases this 2026 — “Twist of Fate.”
Helmed by esteemed film and television director Andoy L. Ranay, the series follows the dangerous web of passion, betrayal, revenge, and illicit affairs involving two married couples: Ginny (Yen Santos) and Sam Rodriguez (Rafael Rosell), and Clarissa (Angelica Lao) and Donny German (Tony Labrusca).
Right from its first five episode, which quickly amassed over 18.6 million views across iWant and ABS-CBN's online platforms less than a week after its official release on May 30, 2026, viewers were immediately treated to stellar acting performances and intense showdowns among the main characters.
Just when it appears that devoted wife Ginny is in a happy and loving marriage, especially as she and her husband, Sam, marks their 7th wedding anniversary, the reality turns out to be far from what the viewers have expected.
Since she’s very eager to celebrate the special occasion with her husband, she decides to surprise him by coming over to his office without any notice, bringing the food that she had meticulously and lovingly prepared specially for him. Unbeknownst to her, Sam is already having a steamy moment with his colleague and side chick Clarissa inside his office.
As we wait with bated breath to see whether the illicit lovers will be caught, Sam manages to push Clarissa to the floor, where she hides beside the billiards table just as Ginny opens the door and enters her husband’s office. Ginny insists that they eat there, but Sam makes an excuse and leads her out before she can catch his paramour. Just as Clarissa assumes that the couple has already gotten far away or have completely left, she suddenly rushes out of Sam’s office, catching Ginny’s attention.
Rather than covering up for her affair partner, Clarissa has only given Ginny more reason to grow suspicious that something is going on between her and Sam. As Ginny confronts Clarissa, the latter admits that she has actually been in Sam’s office all along, amplifying the tension among them. Ginny tries to be composed and even invites her to join them for dinner, which Clarissa enthusiastically accepts since her husband, Donny, is probably still busy with work and hasn’t prepared dinner yet.
Fearing what the confrontation might lead to, Sam quickly interrupts their heated verbal exchange, urging Ginny that they already need to go since he still has a lot of work to do. As they arrive home, the couple doesn’t actually get to celebrate their anniversary because, instead of making the night romantic and special, Sam gives Ginny a taste of his wrath by ruthlessly hitting her, scolding her for coming to the office unannounced, and reminding her that she’s just a housewife, so she must only stay home.
While she has not experienced abuse or belittlement from her husband, Clarissa clearly has an unhappy marriage with Donny as well. Rather than showing excitement at seeing her after a day apart, Donny remains indifferent and continues working. He doesn’t seem to care at all, even when Clarissa tells him that she had made love with another man, responding to everything she says with nothing more than a casual “okay.”
The following day, Sam once again manipulates Ginny, telling her to be a good and obedient wife to keep them from running into any problems. She vows to do her best to become a better wife, which pleases Sam, prompting him to promise that he will bring her something when he returns from the convention. As soon as Sam leaves, Ginny opens the cabinet and looks at the luxury bags he has given her as peace offerings every time he physically and verbally abuses her.
Ginny later receives a call from Sam’s secretary, Betsy (Kiki Baento), reminding her to bring a formal outfit for the convention’s gala night. When Ginny tells her that Sam probably does not want her to accompany him, Betsy reveals that the chairman actually requires employees to bring their spouses or families to the event.
As Ginny wonders how she will get to the venue, little does she know that Sam has apparently arranged things this way on purpose, allowing him and Clarissa to freely carry out their secret affair while away from their respective spouses. As they engage in another clandestine encounter, however, Sam and Clarissa are unaware that someone is secretly recording them.
“Twist of Fate” is a fitting project for Yen and Tony’s return to acting in an ABS-CBN Studios production after being away for a few years, as both deliver impressive performances in their respective roles. Meanwhile, the project is a great addition to Rafael’s continuously growing résumé, especially with how compellingly he portrays a manipulative, abusive, and philandering husband. Angelica, on the other hand, is indeed a huge revelation, as her portrayal of a feisty mistress shows great promise.
It may be fast-paced, but the series does not fall short when it comes to telling its story while delivering explosive confrontations, compelling drama, shocking twists, and scorching steamy scenes—as if we were watching a full-length teleserye.
