While Sam (Julia Montes) has been so occupied with uncovering the truth behind Gabo’s (Coco Martin) connection to the Zafra family’s notorious gold-smuggling syndicate—to the point of pretending to have lost her memory, playing along with Gabo’s game, and even faking her own death in “Coco Martin’s Sigabo”—little does she know that her family and colleagues at NCIA have been deeply worried about her and tirelessly searching everywhere for her.
Having formed a close bond both in and out of work, Sam’s teammates were devastated when they recovered the red jacket she had been wearing the last time they saw her, riddled with bullets. The discovery left them fearing that she might already be dead. Among those deeply affected is her arrogant fellow agent and longtime admirer, Sebastian “Seb” Tuazon, compellingly portrayed by seasoned Kapamilya heartthrob JC de Vera.
As we await how Seb and the people who love Sam will process this heartbreaking turn of events, let’s revisit 10 scenes that had everyone around Seb seriously exasperated by his arrogant and conceited demeanor.
Not a day seemed to pass without Seb getting on Sam’s nerves. Aside from constantly pestering her to accept him as her boyfriend, he would also make self-assured remarks that never failed to make her roll her eyes. Despite knowing that Sam could handle herself, Seb appointed himself as her very own “knight in very shining armor,” always insisting that he was ready to protect her.
But Seb eventually proved that he wasn’t all talk when he saved Sam from being harassed during their Binondo mission. After Gabo attempted to harass her following their accidental encounter, Seb punched him, beat him up after learning that Gabo had kissed Sam during their first meeting, and even held him at gunpoint while identifying himself as an NCIA officer.
Despite blowing their team’s cover during the operation, Seb was still commended for leading the team, while Sam was reprimanded. He tried to comfort her by telling her not to think that she wasn’t good enough and even invited her to dinner. Sam, however, turned him down because what she really wanted at the time was to get away from stress— which Seb had been giving her.
Already fed up with Seb’s domineering ways, particularly his habit of interfering in the cases she handled, Sam finally confronted him. But he took it the wrong way and asked whether she didn’t appreciate everything he was doing for her. Sam reminded him that she never asked for his help and didn’t need it.
Seb’s sky-high opinion of himself was on full display when he told NCIA’s Team Alpha that they had made a huge mistake by leaving him out of their unauthorized mission against Mr. Chan (Mike Castillo). Clearly convinced that he was the missing piece they needed, Seb believed their opponents would have been no match for them if he had been there—and that they could have avoided getting reprimanded altogether had they simply brought him along.
Even though he knew that Sam had never trusted him, Seb smugly told her that he should be the first person she turns to whenever she has to make a decision or take on a mission, as though he were the obvious person she needed by her side.
Apparently, Seb's confidence didn’t stop at work, as Sam's family got a taste of his pompous ways. After taking Sam home when she got drunk during an after-work hangout with Team Alpha, he introduced himself to her parents as “Top Agent Sebastian” and immediately charmed them with compliments. As Sam referred to him as her “katrabaho” or colleague, Seb was quick to add, “for now,” as if he were already certain that Sam would eventually give him the sweet “yes” he had been waiting for.
While everyone at the party was delighted, Max (Arci Muñoz) and Ricardo (Edu Manzano) were visibly annoyed by Seb's confidence, especially when he confidently called himself Sam's "soon-to-be-boyfriend." Even when Jacinto family friend Pinky (Pinky Tobiano) prodded Sam to finally accept Seb’s love, he told Pinky that he wasn’t rushing Sam and simply wanted her to take her time getting to know him better.
As he paid the Jacintos a visit following Sam’s disappearance—supposedly to check on them and update them about the NCIA’s ongoing investigation—Seb once again got on Max and Ricardo’s nerves. He ended up bragging about graduating cum laude, confidently claiming that his academic achievement was proof that whatever he did would surely work.
When Max called him out for trying too hard to impress them, Seb simply replied that he didn’t need to impress anyone because he was already impressive—and handsome. Ricardo eventually told him to return only when he had actual updates about Sam’s case.
Lastly, Seb’s confidence reached another level when he later brought a cake for the Jacintos and told Isobel (Carmi Martin) that once he and Sam would end up together, he would let her quit working and live like a princess because he could provide her with a comfortable life.
As Pinky asked how sure he was that Sam would choose him over her other possible admirers, Seb confidently questioned whether any of them could match his looks, fortune, and intelligence—or even come from a decent family. He also reminded Isobel that he had always been there for Sam and her family and even promised to give Sam an elegant engagement ring.
With his overflowing confidence and inflated ego, Seb certainly knows how to get under everyone’s skin. But with Sam’s fate still uncertain, will his confidence hold up when he finally learns what really happened to her?
