In school, attendance checks are pretty straightforward. Your name gets called and you just say “present." But, things work differently in Meme-Estra Vice Ganda’s class, where the “It’s Showtime” hosts must respond with a line that fits the given theme.
This trend on the show started when Vice Ganda asked her co-hosts to mark their attendance by revealing the status of their hearts. This was when Kim Chiu said, “Marami man ang aking pinagdaanan, magiging sulit kung para sa'yo ang hantungan.” Of course, many were intrigued, including Vice Ganda, who noted that Kim sounded like she was waiting for someone to confirm her status.
And then the fam got teary-eyed when Ryan Bang uttered, with emotion in his eyes, “Nadurog parang paminta. Pero may bubuo, sino kaya?” Vice approached him for a hug and assured him, “Buo ka.”
Their next assignment was to introduce themselves by borrowing the acronyms of Philippine executive agencies and giving them a whole new meaning. Jhong Hilario got ahead of the teasing when he introduced himself as DOT, as in “Dancer O Tyonggo.” Vhong Navarro followed with DTI, meaning “’Di Tangos Ilong.”
After his tear-jerking entry last time, all eyes were also on Ryan for his next attendance. He went with DSWD, meaning “Dating Sawi, Willing to Date.” But the biggest hit of the batch was Ion Perez’s DPWH, which stood for “Darling Kong Partner ay Walang Hair.” Vice’s eyes widened in disbelief at the unexpected roast from her own babe.
For their next attendance theme, the hosts had to share a one-liner that would describe their best high school memory. Lassy joked, “Sa maniwala kayo't sa hindi, na-nominate ako bilang muse.” But the catch? “All boys kasi kami.” And then Kim looked back on her first time holding hands and her first heartbreak during her sophomore year in high school, courtesy of a guy who chose an online game over her.
Of course, everyone burst out laughing at Vice’s entry, “Pinatawag ng teacher 'yung nanay ko dahil lagi raw akong late... eh, hindi naman ako nag-enroll.”
The feels were definitely feeling during the gang’s “shout-out to my ex” attendance check. The Madlang People were all intrigued when Brent Manalo dedicated his message to the former “Big Winner” of his life. “Sa aking dating big winner, do you remember the time I tried to be better? Nagulat na lang ako nang biglang naging cold ang weather. Kaya heto ako ngayon, ngingiti na lang at alone sa next chapter.”
Karylle did her homework seriously and even brought a cheat sheet to make sure she got her shout-out right. “Good morning sa lahat, except sa ex ko at sa akin. 'Pag binanggit ko pa siya, lagot, kasi salita'y 'di maaangkin. Focus na lang tayo sa baha't mahalagang usapin.”
We were also amused by Cianne Dominguez's shout-out with a plot twist, "Shout out sa dalawa kong ex na guwapo. Sinayang n'yo ang ganda ko. Pero masaya ako at ang nagkatuluyan ay kayo. Love wins, mga ate ko!"
And after poking fun at his beloved's hair in an earlier attendance check, Ion made sure to make it up to Vice this time with a sweet declaration, “Ang nakaraan, limot ko na. Dahil sa kasalukuyan, ang mundo ko si Tutoy alyas Vice Ganda.”
Kim, meanwhile, served a bittersweet moving-on message to an ex, “Hindi kita pinagsisihan. Pero hindi na kita babalikan. Dahil may mga ala-alang dapat maging ala-ala na lang.”
Perhaps the most heartbreaking entry of all came from Ryan, who plucked his shout-out from his own experience. “Ako'y may dating kasintahan at dati kaming nagmamahalan. Pero 'di pumayag ang tadhana. Kaya 'di kami natuloy sa dambana.” Everyone was so affected that Vice jokingly called for a lunch break so they could recover first.
