MANILA -- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said it is extending its "no disconnection policy" through the end of the year, but only for households consuming 200 kWh or less monthly.

ERC extends ‘no disconnection’ policy

Some power distributors have noted that some of their customers have not been paying their electric bills on time, ERC Commissioner Francis Saturnino Juan told reporters.

"Marami na rin tayong na-receive na request from our utilities, kasama yung mga electric cooperatives, na medyo because of the no disconnection policy that applies to all their customers, kasama yung mga malalaki, yung mga commercial and industrial, medyo hindi on time na nababayaran yung bills ng customers nila," he explained.

"With the no disconnection sa residential, we are able to preserve yung protection that we want extended sa ating mga more vulnerable na mga customers, dahil we do understand na talagang mahirap yung sitwasyon natin ngayon, plus yung power rates, pataas pa rin," he said.

The ERC said it is also studying possibly extending the moratorium on the collection of the Green Energy Auction Allowance, but it noted that this will depend on the “sufficiency of the fund.”
