MANILA — Philippine fintech giant Maya is advocating for digital payroll modernization and Open Finance to grant Filipino employees greater choice over their earnings and broader access to essential financial tools.

Maya said it supports allowing employees to choose where their salaries are deposited. Dubbed as payroll portability, this would require bank-agnostic disbursement through interoperable payment infrastructure.

Open Finance could complement this by allowing workers, with their consent, to securely share financial information and access services better suited to their needs, Maya added.

Speaking at the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) 2026 Future of Work Forum, Kristoffer Rada, Maya’s Head of Corporate Affairs, highlighted digital salary disbursement as a crucial entry point to long-term financial health.

"When payroll connects people to saving, payments and responsible credit, it can support financial health well beyond payday," Rada said.

To advance this initiative, Maya said it is collaborating with BPO firms and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to serve nearly 1.9 million digital workers.

Through Maya Business, employers can execute automated payouts at scale, while workers receive funds in the Maya app to manage everyday expenses, build savings, and establish a credit footprint.

Using consented data and artificial intelligence, financial institutions can better evaluate creditworthiness for individuals lacking traditional credit histories.
