MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has imposed a lifetime ban and perpetual revocation of the driver’s license of an e-taxi driver involved in the alleged sexual assault of a passenger.
In a resolution issued by the agency, the driver is permanently disqualified from obtaining any type of driver’s license after being found to have violated existing regulations.
The driver and the taxi operator were earlier issued a show-cause order following a complaint from the victim over an incident that occurred in Parañaque City on September 12.
THE COMPLAINT
According to the complaint, she fell asleep during the trip and was not dropped off at her designated destination. Instead, she was allegedly taken to another location where the abuse occurred.
During the hearing conducted by the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division, the driver confirmed that he was operating the taxi at around 3 a.m. on the day of the incident. In his sworn statement, he also admitted that sexual activity took place inside the vehicle.
As a result, the driver was declared an “improper person to operate a motor vehicle,” leading to the revocation of his license.
The operator was also found liable for violations including breach of franchise and employing a discourteous driver.
The taxi involved remains under alarm status as part of the agency’s action on the case.
According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, the agency will not tolerate any form of abuse on the road, especially those involving public utility vehicles that carry the responsibility of ensuring passenger safety.
The LTO began its investigation after the victim’s complaint surfaced on a radio program. Authorities were able to identify the driver through CCTV footage and booking details.
The agency emphasized that drivers and operators proven to be involved in abuse or violations will be held accountable, and urged the public to continue reporting any irregularities for immediate action.
