MANILA — Sumama ang iba’t ibang sektor sa kilos protesta ng mga pampublikong tsuper kaugnay ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng mga produktong petrolyo sa Welcome Rotonda, Quezon City.
Sa kabila ng pag-ulan, nagmartsa patungo sa Welcome Rotonda ang mga progresibong grupo upang makiisa sa panawagang alisin ang 12-percent value-added tax (VAT) at oil excise tax para mapababa ang presyo ng langis.
Ayon kay House Deputy Minority Leader at ACT Teachers Party-list Representative Antonio Tinio, suportado ng mga guro ang transport strike ng grupong Piston.
“These taxes inflate the price of every liter of fuel that our drivers purchase. Suspending them will provide immediate, substantial, and across-the-board relief not only for transport workers but for all consumers reeling from the endless price increases,” saad ni Tinio.

Lumahok din sa pagtitipon si Kabataan Party-list Representative Renee Co upang magbigay ng talumpati.
“Naiintindihan natin na ang kawalan ng mga tsuper ay pag-cripple ng transport industry,” saad ni Co.
“Ngayon, kung hindi sila makabiyahe dahil sa taas ng presyo ng langis, tayo na naman ang mai-stranded,” dagdag niya.
Ani Co, kakarampot din ang P1 dagdag-singil sa pasahe na hindi umano kayang sumabay sa sumisirit na presyo ng petrolyo.
“Ang solusyon dapat ay hindi lang ang nakakainsulto na P1 fare hike kundi ‘yong isang sistema na lahat tayo ay hindi naiiwan sa ere,” dagdag ng mambabatas.
Isinusulong umano ng mga mambabatas sa Makabayan bloc na mapawalang-bisa ang Oil Deregulation Law upang maibalik sa pamahalaan ang kapangyarihang kontrolin at magtakda ng presyo ng langis sa bansa.
Samantala, nagbabala rin si Tinio laban sa anumang uri ng harassment, intimidation, o pagpigil sa mga driver at operator na lalahok sa welga.

Para sa mambabatas, hindi makatarungan ang banta ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na patawan ng administrative penalties, show-cause orders, at multang ₱5,000 ang mga transport operator na hihinto sa operasyon.
“Instead of threatening drivers and operators with fines and franchise cancellations, the LTFRB and the government should address the root of the strike: unbearably high fuel prices and a fare hike that fails to cover drivers’ daily losses. Penalizing drivers for asserting their rights only deepens the injustice they already suffer,” ani Tinio.
