MANILA — The House prosecution is set to present two Land Registration Authority (LRA) officials when the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte resumes Thursday, followed by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) director, and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Lead prosecutor Rep. Gerville Luistro laid out the lineup Wednesday, a day after the impeachment court suspended its hearing for a “strategic procedural pause” to give both sides time to review voluminous financial records.
The trial will resume Thursday, Oct. 1, with whole-day proceedings from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“I think we need to prepare at least two witnesses for every trial where it will be extending until 6 o'clock in the [evening],” Luistro said in an interview with ANC's Headstart.
Luistro said the prosecution intends to call the two LRA officials first, whose testimonies will focus on properties and acquisitions attributed to Duterte.
The prosecution may then present the AMLC director before Trillanes, possibly Thursday or Friday.
“We thought it proper as well to present the AMLC first and then [former] Senator Trillanes,” Luistro said.

Luistro said the LRA witnesses are expected to testify about Duterte’s properties and the modes by which these were acquired.
The prosecution is linking the property records to the three allegations under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment: non-disclosure in the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), unexplained wealth, and alleged non-divestment from business and financial interests.
“The big question for tomorrow and on Friday would be, how many properties did she actually have and how many are declared in her SALN and how she managed to afford these properties,” Luistro said.
She said the prosecution would also look into whether properties were bought, donated or inherited.
However, Luistro said the prosecution itself does not yet know exactly how many properties will be covered.
“To be very honest with the public, the prosecution is likewise not aware as to the extent of the testimony of the two LRA officials that includes the number of properties of the respondent vice president,” she said.
“The least we can say is it concerns properties including acquisitions or modes of acquisitions of these properties of the respondent vice president,” she added.
Luistro said the sequence was adjusted after the impeachment court observed that Trillanes’ testimony would involve the sources of certain transactions or acquisitions.
Trillanes is expected to testify about financial transactions involving Duterte, including information he previously presented before the House justice committee.
Luistro, however, said his testimony would not necessarily be limited to bank records.
“There will be other significant matters he will be testifying to and this includes the sources, the acquisitions,” she said.
