MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has extended the appointments of Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon and Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said on Wednesday.
“We’ve extended the appointments of Secretary Dizon and Secretary Banoy. At the appropriate time, the President will submit for confirmation (of the Commission on Appointments),” Recto told the media following the Senate budget hearing on the Office of the President.
Recto clarified that despite the extension, the appointments will still undergo confirmation by the Commission on Appointments (CA) at the appropriate time.
“Decision ng Pangulo yan… Darating din tayo diyan, but for now the President extended the appointments,” he explained.
Recto added his own appointment as Executive Secretary will also be submitted to the CA for confirmation.
“Yes, sigurado dadaan tayo diyan, pretty soon. My understanding is that at least I have a year so I was appointed Secretary or Executive Secretary on November 18th I think that’s a non-issue at this point in time.”
The issue over the appointments surfaced after Senator Imee Marcos questioned Dizon’s appointment during the DPWH budget briefing in the Senate.
Marcos earlier cited the 1987 Administrative Code, which provides a one-year limit for a temporary designation.
