BATANGAS (2nd UPDATE) — A 54-year-old man died and three others were injured on Saturday after a modern public utility vehicle collided with a tricycle in Barangay Palsahingin, San Pascual, Batangas, police said.
The crash occurred around 12:20 p.m. along a provincial road, when the tricycle stopped to pick up a passenger, according to the San Pascual Municipal Police Station.

Police said the approaching PUV, owned by FCM Transport, struck the rear of the tricycle, throwing its passengers onto the road.
The injured passengers, including a student, were taken to San Pascual de Baylon Hospital and San Antonio Life Care Hospital for treatment.
However, a 54-year-old male passenger was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while the tricycle driver later died in the early hours of Sunday.
SPEEDING, SWERVING
Dashcam footage from another vehicle showed the modern PUV traveling at high speed along the Provincial Road.
The vehicle suddenly swerved into the opposite lane before returning to its lane and hitting the tricycle, which was stopped to pick up passengers.
Authorities have taken the modern PUV driver into custody and are preparing charges against him.
He faces two counts of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injuries and damage to property.
Mayor Roanna Conti said she has asked the Land Transportation Office to impose a heavy penalty on the driver. The mayor also wants the LTO to investigate FCM Transport for other potential violations.
