President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday said the government would expand its support for companies adopting Industry 4.0 technologies after inspecting a DOST-assisted robotics-driven manufacturing facility in Laguna.

During his visit to the Nuvali Steel Processing Center Inc. (NSPCI) in Biñan City, Marcos said the Department of Science and Technology’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) demonstrates how the government and private sector can work together to help local manufacturers compete globally.

“It is [the] government and private sector working hand-in-hand to help private sector to the state-of-the-art so that we can compete on an international level,” Marcos said.

He described the facility as one of the country’s more advanced robotics manufacturing facilities, producing parts for automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, airplanes, and other machinery that meet international standards.

“The products that are coming out of here are already at international standards that are acceptable as suppliers for the major companies,” Marcos said.

“The advances that have been made in robotics are really quite impressive,” he added. “We will do more of this, not only for Nuvali Steel, but also for the other companies.”

Marcos said strengthening local manufacturing could help reduce the country’s dependence on imported parts while keeping more value within the Philippines and strengthening local supply chains.

He said stronger supply chains could also translate to higher production and more jobs.

“Pagka matibay ang supply chain, mas malaki ang production, mas maraming trabaho, mas marami tayong magiging produkto na puwedeng gamitin,” Marcos said.

Marcos also emphasized the importance of improving manufacturing technology while strengthening coordination between the government and private sector.

He said the experience of NSPCI could serve as a model for supporting more local companies as they adopt advanced manufacturing technologies.
