MANILA — The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will affect southern Philippines as Tropical Storm Queenie continues to move northwestward over the Philippine Sea, according to PAGASA.
ITCZ is the region where clouds and thunderstorms form as winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet.
Scattered rains will be experienced in Mindanao, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have warm and humid conditions with likely localized thunderstorms or rain showers in the afternoon or evening.
At 4 a.m. Friday, Tropical Storm Queenie was located 1,065 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.
It has maintained its maximum winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness up to 90 kph. It is moving northwestward at 20 kph.
Queenie is expected to gradually intensify while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
It may reach severe tropical storm strength while recurving east of Taiwan this weekend and intensify further into a typhoon before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility between Sunday afternoon, September 27, and Monday morning, September 28.
