Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil on Monday (December 22) read a letter from President Nicolas Maduro addressed to Latin American and Caribbean leaders and United Nations member states, warning of an escalation of U.S. aggression.
The letter denounced a military deployment in the Caribbean, attacks on civilian vessels, and actions described as piracy and an energy blockade. In the statement, Venezuela reaffirmed its commitment to peace and urged the international community to condemn these acts and defend international law.
On Sunday (December 21), two U.S. officials told Reuters about another interception of a vessel off the coast of Venezuela in international waters, marking the second such operation during the weekend.
The move follows days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “blockade” of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.
