MANILA — There have been no Filipinos reportedly staying in temporary shelters in Thailand following heavy rains and massive flooding, the Philippine envoy to Thailand said on Monday.
Bangkok authorities declared a flood disaster across the Thai capital on Saturday after almost 48 hours of heavy rain left canals full, roads submerged and residents knee-deep in water.
Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz-Paredes said they have yet to receive any reports of Filipinos evacuated in 233 temporary shelters in Bangkok.
“Sa ngayon, wala pa kaming nababalitaan kung may mga Pilipino sa mga shelters na ‘yan, so far, wala. We have reached out at inalam namin pero so far, wala pa kaming natutukoy na nasa shelter ang mga Pilipino,” she told state-run media PTV in a television interview Monday, September 28.

Many Filipinos working in public schools are also encouraged to work from home after the Thai government declared a two-day holiday, according to the envoy.
The Embassy is also providing water and other essentials amid reports of panic buying and food hoarding at the height of floodings.
“May mga mangilan-ngilan dito na areas na nahihirapan daw sila bumili, so nagpapaabot kami ngayon ng tubig, ng pagkain, hinahanap namin kung sino ‘yung mga FilCom na nangangailangan,” she stated.
“Overall, hindi naman ganun kalala or kasama ang situation,” Cruz-Paredes noted.
The Embassy assures relentless monitoring as heavy rains are expected to continue.
“Ganun din ang panawagan natin sa Filipino community dito na manatiling maging alert at magmatiyag at ipaalam sa amin ‘yung mga members ng Filipino community na nangangailangan ng tulong,” Cruz-Paredes said.
