Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is expected to be named as the new head coach of the USA men's basketball team, according to a report by ESPN.
The Filipino-American coach will be ushering in a new era for the country's hoops program as he succeeds Steve Kerr for the 2027 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The 54-year-old mentor was already part of the squad as an assistant coach, helping the team win the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. USA Basketball defeated host France in the final, 98-87, for their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal.

Also called "Spo," the two-time NBA champion is one of the highly respected tacticians in the big league and has led the Heat to six NBA Finals appearances.
Just last year, Spoelstra signed an eight-year, $120-million extension with the Heat.
