Angela Davocol/NCAA Philippines.MANILA — Josh Cajucom stepped up as College of Saint Benilde avoided an upset against San Sebastian College with a 73-66 win in NCAA Season 102 on Monday at the FilOil Centre in San Juan.
The veteran guard posted 20 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Blazers found their footing to notch their fifth win in six games and remain at the top of Group A.
“I think our defense wasn’t on point in the second half, so thankfully, we were able to get stops in the third and fourth quarter,” said Saint Benilde head coach Paolo Layug, whose squad limited the Golden Stags to 12 points in the final frame.
Jhomel Ancheta added 14 points, while Justine Sachez and Ian Torres scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Blazers zoomed to their third straight win.
Christian Ricio led the Stags with 15 points, while Kent Bacani and Ralph Gabat followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively, as they absorbed their sixth straight loss in as many outings.
