MANILA (UPDATED) — Ateneo de Manila University returned to the win column after taking down Adamson University, 73-68, in UAAP Season 89 men's basketball on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Travis Roberts powered the Blue Eagles with 14 points and three rebounds, while Jared Bahay stepped up in crunch time with 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists, as they avoided squandering a 13-point lead.
"I'm just trying to make the most out of it, whatever the team needs of me," said the 6-foot-5, 23-year-old Roberts, who scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as he competes in what is his first and last season in the UAAP.
On the other hand, it was Adamson's first loss after opening its campaign with a 56-53 win over Far Eastern University, as the Soaring Falcons could not overcome the onslaught of Bahay and Roberts in the third period.
Precious Jonah, Mat Edding, and Ray Allen Torres then came alive late in the final frame to cut the Soaring Falcons' deficit to single digits, while an Earl Medina jumper in the final 11 seconds brought them to within five, 71-66.
However, Bahay was steady from the foul line and converted all four of his shots to seal the victory.
Jonah led Adamson with 17 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, and two assists. Edding and Torres each scored 12 points, while Medina finished with seven points but made only one of his seven three-point attempts.
