NAGOYA – The country's jiu jitsu athletes continued to struggle on the second day of their campaign at the 20th Asian Games.

Three-time JJIF World Champion Annie Ramirez suffered another early exit, as she fell to Thailand's Nuchanat Singchalad in the Women's –52kg Round of 16 on Friday at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall.

Singchalad controlled the match from start to finish, as the Thai fighter secured the victory with two advantage points, advancing to the quarterfinals.

With the result, Ramirez failed to replicate her gold medal from the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in women’s -57kg class.

The result was another shocker for the Philippines following the opening round loss of fellow world champion Kimberly Custodio on Thursday, as both were projected gold medal winners at the continental showcase.

Kaila Napolis has advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's –52kg class, the same event where she copped bronze at the 19th Asian Games.

In the men's division, Romeo Arellano was the lone bright spot for the Philippine jiu jitsu team as he moved on to the Men -94kg quarterfinals with a 6-2 win over Mongolia's Ariuntsog Baasandorj in the Round of 16.

Arellano fell to Iran's Pooriya Taherkhani in the quarterfinals with the later winning due to advantages.

The Filipino jiu jitsu athlete failed to advance to the bronze medal match, after losing to UAE's Amaar Alhosani in the repechage.

Earlier in the day, Luigi Dy and Mark Constance Vergel lost to Mongolian opponents in the Men -77kg Elimination Round of 32.

The last batch of jiu jitsu athletes competing tomorrow include world champion Alex Enriquez, Vito Luzuriaga, Andrea Lois Lao and David Miranda.
