MANILA — Rising 19-year-old AJ Manas and veteran Carlo Biado settled for a runner-up finish after falling to Spain's Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and David Alcaide in the gold-medal match of the WPA Men's Doubles 10-Ball World Championship on Monday in Bali, Indonesia.
The defeat denied the 42-year-old Biado his first dedicated WPA Men's Doubles world title, while Manas missed out on his first senior WPA world championship crown.
The championship match went down to the deciding set, with the two pairs deadlocked at 2-2 in the best-of-five match.
With the final set also going down to the wire, Manas scratched on the corner pocket while attempting to pocket the 7-ball in the fifth rack, allowing the Spanish duo to take a 3-2 lead before Sánchez Ruiz and Alcaide closed out the match in the final rack.
Biado and Manas will now turn their attention to the Reyes Cup, where they are set to defend their 9-ball title for Team Asia.
The third edition of the Reyes Cup is scheduled for Oct. 15 to 18 at the Makati Coliseum.
