The 19-year-old top seed Mirra Andreeva dispatched Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Tennis Open.
The Roland Garros champion revealed that the key was simply staying calm during her match.
"I just feel like today I was feeling a little bit more calm. Of course, I was happy when I would win points — I would internally say, come on, let's go, keep it up. Just supporting myself inside. That's just how I felt," she said.
“Sometimes there are days where you just feel more comfortable when you're more calm. I guess today was one of those days."
The world No. 5 has been putting in the work in practice, and she felt it showed up in the match.
"I've been having some great days of practice. I've been working on my serve, working on my game. I'm super happy that I was able to implement this on the court today," she said.

“It gives a lot of confidence that I can see myself improving certain things."
The Singapore crowd gave both players a warm reception.
"The support I received today was incredible. I felt like everyone was just so excited to see me. But I also felt like they had the same amount of support for my opponent," she said.
"To be honest, I was expecting maybe they would be a little bit more on my side. But they were just so happy to see players play. They were just so excited to watch tennis live."

Off the court, Andreeva hinted she has found good company in Singapore.
"My friend who won doubles today… We spent the whole day after my practice talking non-stop. When we stopped, I felt like my throat was hurting from how much I'd talked," she said with a laugh.
“I guess tomorrow we'll do something similar. Maybe go somewhere, drink a coffee — a non-alcoholic drink. Lemonade or coffee, tea, whatever."
She described the friendship as one built on shared opinions and genuine comfort
"I met her just because she's older, so I always knew she was there. After I saw her at one tournament, we just got to talking. I just felt like we have so many things in common. I just feel super comfortable.
Next up for her is sixth seed Leylah Fernandez, who beat Alycia Parks, 6-4, 6-3, to set up the quarterfinal.
Andreeva said the match-up will be a challenge but she is ready for it.
"She likes to take the ball early. She's aggressive, she likes to go for it as well," Andreeva said of Fernandez.
“Every day is different. Today I was super calm — I was not even nervous before the match. I was like, okay, I'll just go out there and play."
