MANILA — One of the youngest members of the Philippines' contingent in the 2026 Asian Games put up a gallant stand before eventually missing the podium on Friday.
Mazel Paris, 12, finished fifth after a competitive showing in the women's park skateboarding final at the Aichi Sky Expo in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Paris, who was the country's youngest gold medalist in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, posted a score of 80.65 points in her fourth run. Her score was bettered by China's Cao Shiqi, however, who posted a score of 81.23 in her own final run.
Paris earlier posted solid showings of 70.81 in Run 1 and 80.19 in Run 2, followed by a minor slip in Run 3 (1.67).
Home bet Mizuho Hasegawa, 15, claimed gold with a score of 94.03, Chinese Taipei's Lin Yi-fan (85.15) captured silver, while Japanese Misugu Okamoto (82.86) completed the podium.
Jericho Francisco will compete in the men's park skateboarding final at 11:30 a.m. after also advancing from the preliminaries.
Margielyn Didal was the last Filipina skateboarder to win an Asiad medal after ruling the women's street event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
