Carlos and Eldrew Yulo at the 20th Asian Games. POC Media PoolNAGOYA – Carlos Yulo believes the best is yet to come for his younger brother Eldrew, after his first appearance at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
The elder Yulo bagged the Philippines' first medal in the continental meet on Thursday, after ruling the men's floor exercise final.
Unlike the 2026 Asian Championships where they shared the podium, Eldrew finished seventh in the final with 12.233 points, far from his 13.966 points in the qualifications.
Following the result, Carlos said seeing what Eldrew is going through now reminds him of the earlier years in his career.

"I know, disappointed siya. Nasa stage [siya] na pagdadaanan niya po talaga yung mga ganitong pangyayari. At hindi po natin yung maiwasan bilang atleta," the elder Yulo told POC Media.
"Bago ka manalo, part po ito talaga ng winning. Yung process na mahirapan, matalo, matuto, magkamali. At syempre bumangon po ulit, paulit-ulit, nang walang sawa," he added.

For Carlos, he hopes Eldrew uses this setback as a step towards a greater comeback.
"Para sa akin, nasa exciting part si Eldrew. And huwag lang siya sumuko. He's really a talented kid. Darating at darating yung para sa kanya. Naniniwala po ako doon," he shared.
In an interview with Cignal, Eldrew remains grateful for the opportunity to reach the final and represent the Philippines again alongside his brother.
"Hindi man lumabas kung ano yung ginawa ko at ine-expect ko, nagpapasalamat ako kay Lord dahil ligtas ako at walang nangyaring masama sa akin," he told Cignal.

"Ayoko naman i-reason na I'm still young but pwede ko siya sabihin na I'm still young, I still have work to do and marami pa akong pwedeng pag-aralan. Thank you po sa lahat ng sumuporta at babawi ako next time," Eldrew added.
Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Tolentino lauded the Yulo brothers for their performances, expressing hope in the future of Eldrew.
"Si Eldrew, marami pa namang chances. He's still young. Lessons learned," he told POC Media.
The Yulo brothers will see action again on Friday, Carlos in the vault and parallel bars finals and horizontal bar finals for Eldrew.
Their teammate, Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Miguel Besana will also compete in the vault finals.
