MANILA — De La Salle University powered past National University, 2-0, for its third win in the UAAP Season 89 women's football tournament on Wednesday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.
Inclement weather delayed the match by 30 minutes from its 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
When the match finally kicked off, it took 37 minutes before Jodi Banzon broke the deadlock to put the Lady Booters ahead. Chenny Dañoso then doubled La Salle's advantage in the 57th minute.
This was Dañoso's second goal of the season, with Lara Regarde providing the assist.
The goal also moved Dañoso level with Regarde at two goals apiece this season.
"I'm happy for Chenny na nakuha niya yung second goal niya," said coach Joyce Landagan. "Now, I hope na magtuloy-tuloy and, pangalawa, the connection between her and her teammates, how she activates her teammates, sana mag tuloy-tuloy."
The victory lifted La Salle to a maximum nine points and a plus-six goal difference, putting the Lady Booters atop the standings as of this writing.
More importantly, the result kept the Lady Booters perfect under Landagan, who once again urged her players to keep their feet on the ground and continue working hard.
"We will stick on each game. Yung mga plano naming, we will stick to it. We will take one game at a time lagi para from there we'll see yung progress namin as a team," Landagan said.
La Salle will look to make it four straight wins when it faces the University of Santo Tomas on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. NU, meanwhile, will seek its first points of the season against the University of the Philippines at 7 p.m. Both matches will be played at the same venue.
