MANILA — Actor-turned-senator Robin Padilla suggested he was not immediately privy to Aljur Abrenica and AJ Raval’s three children.
Abrenica is the estranged husband of his daughter, Kylie Padilla.
“Wala ako alam sa ganyan. Pero hindi na ako nabibigla sa ganyan. Hindi na ‘yan kabigla-bigla sa panahon ngayon,” Robin said in an interview after his contract signing with Viva Films in Pasig City, Friday.
While he did not comment further on the issue, he hinted that the families are on good terms.
“Ano, re-react ko ba dapat? Dapat si Kylie,” Padilla said. “Wala naman ako nasasabi. Maayos sila, hindi sila nag-aaway. Alam ko lumalabas sila na pamilya.”
The OG Bad Boy of Philippine cinema added that he genuinely wishes Abrenica well.
“Good luck. Magsipag ka lalo dahil marami ka nang anak. Iba na… Wala naman ako masasabi kundi good luck sa lahat,” he said.
Robin also shared that his daughter, who is independent, may not always immediately confide in him, but he trusts she can handle herself.
“Matanda na kasi si Kylie, lumaki independent. Mabuting ina, masipag. Hindi ko na siya inaalala sa mga ganyang usapin. Mahal na mahal kita, anak,” he said.
Robin will return to showbiz beginning with “Bad Boy 3,” the surprise installment in the franchise that defined his onscreen persona as the street-talking, rough-edged rebel with a soft spot.
"Napakalaki ng aking pasasalamat sa aking ama sa showbiz, kay Bos Vic, na siyang unang nakakita ng ating kakayahan sa pelikula. Hindi ako magiging si Robin Padilla kundi dahil sa kanya. Itinuturing ko na siyang aking ama," the senator reasoned.
"I was the first who saw his potential as a new kind of action star. When we did Bad Boy, it was an action star that the Pinoy moviegoer had never seen before and it remains as one of our most successful box-office hit. I am proud of what Robin has become," Del Rosario added.
PASSING THE TITLE
Meanwhile, Padilla said he is eyeing to pass down his title of “The Bad Boy of Philippine Cinema” to his nephew, Daniel Padilla.
Following the acclaimed Kapamilya action series “Incognito,” he believes Daniel will now be more open and interested to the idea.
“Kay Daniel ko siyempre gusto pamana,” the lawmaker said without hesitation during his contract signing with Viva Films.
“Noong panahon sinasabi ko, in love pa siya eh. Pag ibig pa priority. Gumawa siya Incognito, may chance na ngayon,” he explained.
Robin stressed Daniel has all the potential to be the next “Bad Boy.”
“Natural angas sa kanya. Dapat natural eh. Pag inutos lang kasi ng direktor, medyo may kalungkutan yun,” he reasoned.
The lawmaker explained that the title was first given to Jose Padilla Jr., then handed to Joseph Estrada, then transferred to Ace Vergel—before eventually coming to him. He now hopes to continue the tradition by conferring the title to the next-generation star, either symbolically or literally, just as Vergel did.
“Hindi ko makakalimutan yun. Hindi ako yung bad boy talaga . Parang nagka problema sila ni Boss Vic, ako nilagay na kapalit. Parating pa ako ng Viva, pag bukas ng gate— andoon si Alas nakatayo inaabangan ako. fondly. Pag lapit ko, hinarangan ako talaga. Sabi ikaw ba si Robin Padilla? Pinsan mo ba si the boy. Buti na lang pinsan mo. Sige ikaw na bad boy,” he recalled fondly.“Gusto ko pag dumating yung panahon, kung sino maging Bad Boy, may eksena na ipasa ko. Ganon yun diba.”
