Inigo Pascual got candid about his experience auditioning for roles in Hollywood.
In an interview with MJ Marfori, the actor shared that auditions are tough, but it has made him appreciate the roles he gets even more.
"Sobrang hirap din, hindi siya tulad dito na you get offered the role especially there, you know, I'm not Inigo or I'm not Papa P's son. I am going into that world na it's me trying to pursue it on my own. It's exciting. I like the feeling of being able to do that. For me, I find joy in doing auditions and dun mo maa-appreciate 'yung projects na nakukuha mo dahil talagang tatrabahuin mo bago mo makuha," he said.
The actor also revealed that he doesn't land most of the roles he auditions for. "A lot of auditions that you do, honestly more than siguro 90 percent of it, you will not land it. So it will teach you to be patient. It will teach you to work harder and you just want to be better with every audition.”
Despite the many rejections, Iñigo shared that the experience continues to shape him into a better actor. "Minsan dadating ka sa point na, gagawin ko pa ba 'to? Mago-audition pa ba ako? I'm probably not even going to get it but doing it makes you better. It makes you more equipped, and more of a better actor.”
Inigo made his Hollywood debut in 2022 in the series Monarch where he portrayed the role of Ace.
In a previous interview, Inigo detailed how he auditioned for the role. "For Ace, there wasn’t much given to me. It just says that he was adopted. He’s a singer who struggles with anxiety. And so one of my auditions actually was originally Ace was supposed to have seizures. Part of my audition and callback was doing a seizure. And so, I had to act out a seizure on camera.”
The actor also discussed the differences between auditioning in the US and the Philippines. "With Monarch, with the whole process of self-tapes, [in] America, there’s a season for auditions. It’s not like in the Philippines where a project is given or a project is offered to you. In America, kahit na sikat na sikat ka na, you’re still asked to audition for certain things. And during the audition season, I was helping some of my cast mates, I was helping Emma [Milani] with her self-tape, I was helping Callum [Kerr] with his self-tapes, and vice versa, they would help me with my self-tapes.”
Monarch was headlined by veteran actress and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon. The Fox drama followed the lives of Albie Roman (Trace Adkins), the reigning "King of Country Music," and his wife Dottie Cantrell Roman (Susan Sarandon), the "Queen of Country Music." Together, they built a dynasty — but the foundation of their empire hides a dark secret.
In a past interview with Boy Abunda, Inigo recounted his first day on set in the drama.
"I was nervous, sobrang kinakabahan ako going into it. Sa States kasi hindi katulad sa Pilipinas na pwede ka magdala ng road manager mo or ng handler mo. Susunduin ka pero ikaw lang talaga pupunta sa set and siyempre first experience ko 'yun" he recalled.
Inigo praised the warmth and kindness of the cast and crew, saying, "Everyone was so nice as in kung ano 'yung parang pamilya na treatment natin dito ganun din dun."
