Award winning film director Antoinette Jadaone extended her support towards fellow filmmaker Rodina Singh, whose latest film, Dreamboi, was given an X rating by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) prior to its release this week. An X rating by the MTRCB means a film is not allowed for public exhibition due to the content considered to be inappropriate.

In a few hours, my good friend, writer-director Rodina Singh will make her third appeal to the MTRCB for her film Dreamboi. It was given an X rating twice.
Dreamboi stars Tony Labrusca and former Goin’ Bulilit star EJ Jallorina, among others. The film is part of the CineSilip Film Festival which will run from October 22 to 28 at select Ayala Malls.

In her post, the Sunshine director narrated how broken Rodina was after the second X rating was given to the film.
“Nung pangalawang X, tumawag siya’t umiiyak. Pagod na si anteh ko. Pero for one hour lang. Bangon na uli, edit na uli. Ilalaban niya ito. Kasi kwento niya ito. Danas niya ito. A trans woman telling the story of the trans woman. Kasi danas niya ito,” Antoinette shared.
Antoinette maintained that the film Dreamboi is close to Rodina’s heart as she is a transwoman herself. With nothing but ₱2 million, a dream, and the support of her friends to do the film, she remained unbothered as she tried for another appeal to the MTRCB earlier this week.
She is hopeful that the MTRCB would see that Dreamboi is more than just the explicit scenes as she has seen it herself.
“Dreamboi is not pornography. I’ve seen the scene in question. It’s a moving, messy, beautiful exploration of trans desire. It’s about longing, intimacy, what it means to be seen. It’s a story for adults, one that deserves an R18 rating, so it can reach the audience it was made for,” she added.
“Rodina is a trans woman, and she is also an artist. I am lucky to have seen her grow as an artist,” she continued.
Antoinette is one of the few artists who voiced their support for Rodina’s upcoming film. Netizens have also expressed how the MTRCB gave the X rating twice for` Dreamboi.
After several posts of support towards the film, Rodina happily shared that the MTRCB just gave them an R-18 rating just in time for the film festival. This means that the film is allowed to be shown but is strictly allowed for 18 years old and above only.
