Sabrina Carpenter is set to star in the upcoming Fred Astaire biopic.
According to a report by Deadline, the “Espresso” hitmaker will join Tom Holland, who will portray legendary dancer and actor Fred Astaire in the film.
Sabrina will take on the role of Ginger Rogers, Astaire’s longtime on-screen dance partner. Margaret Qualley has also joined the project and will portray Adele Astaire, Fred’s sister and early dancing partner.
Fred Astaire, born Frederick Austerlitz, was an American dancer, actor, singer, musician, choreographer, and presenter whose career spanned 76 years. He became one of Hollywood’s most celebrated dancers and was especially known for his partnership with Rogers, with whom he starred in 10 musicals, including Top Hat, Swing Time, and Shall We Dance.
The Fred Astaire biopic will be directed by Paul King.
Meanwhile, Sabrina previously appeared in films such as Tall Girl, Emergency, Clouds, and The Short History of the Long Road, among others. She first rose to prominence as Maya Hart in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World before establishing herself as one of today’s biggest pop stars.
In an interview with Variety in December 2025, Sabrina reflected on balancing her music and acting careers.
“Music is always going to be my true No. 1, but there’s something really special about playing an incredible role. So I would say No. 1 is music and No. 1½ is acting. And we know how the half makes a difference," she said.

Sabrina released her latest album, Man’s Best Friend, in 2025.
In a previous interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Sabrina shared that the album was created during a complex period in her life.
"I was just going through a lot and I was like, well I could either sit and sulk about it or I could write about it, and it doesn't mean I have to put any of this out. But if it ends up feeling special, and it did, then I will," she stated.
