Grammy Award-winning global superstar Taylor Swift surprised fans and followers as she announced a brand-new single, “Patient Zero,” set for release this Friday, September 25, at midnight ET.
The announcement came just hours after fans noticed a countdown on Taylor’s official website, sparking speculation about what the singer had in store.
Taylor eventually confirmed the news on social media, writing: “I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single ‘Patient Zero’ will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it’s available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours. 0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣.”
Following the announcement, Taylor also unveiled a new profile photo showing her dressed in black and leaning against a wall.
Fans were quick to spot another possible Easter egg as she changed her Instagram bio to feature zeros in place of the letter “o” in the phrase: “And, baby, that's sh0w business f0r y0u. ❤️🔥” from her previous album The Life of a Showgirl.
The new single is also available through Taylor’s website with “collector’s edition CDs,” which include acoustic and piano versions of the song across two different CDs.

The surprise announcement immediately sent Swifties into a frenzy, with fans dissecting every detail of Taylor’s post and looking for possible clues about the new release.
“i know she trained me well when the first thing i did when i saw this post was count the number of exclamation marks 😭,” a fan said, referring to Taylor’s iconic songs’ easter eggs.
Another one said: “OH MY GOD THREE ZEROS THREE DAYS AWAY TO A NEW SINGLE CALLED PATIENT ZERO I KNEW IT”

Taylor’s upcoming song is her latest single following her private and star-studded wedding to American professional football player Travis Kelce back in July at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Her last song released was the Toy Story 5’s soundtrack, “I Knew It, I Knew You."
The surprise release also comes after a series of public sightings by the singer in recent months, including her appearance at the 2026 Emmys alongside her cat Olivia Benson.
Taylor took part in a surprise Emmys sketch with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay, who plays the character Olivia Benson on the long-running television series.

She was also spotted supporting her husband during the Kansas City Chiefs’ opening game, where she was seen in the same suite as actor Tom Cruise.
