To yearn is to be human. And for the yearners out there, Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto’s “Always Yours, Never Mine” gave them even more to reflect on as the film's second trailer was unveiled on Friday, September 25.
The latest trailer was first teased by several celebrities and influencers, who shared the new glimpse of Apollo (Joshua Garcia) and Luna’s (Julia Barretto) story on their respective social media accounts. Among the certified yearners who joined the release were Ryan Bang, Angela Ken, and Bong Gonzales.
The official Star Cinema social media pages then released the new trailer, allowing audiences to finally see more of the complicated emotions surrounding Apollo and Luna — and introducing another person who could further change the course of their story.
Played by Bianca Umali, Gaea enters the picture as the second trailer explores not just the enduring connection between Apollo and Luna, but also the different ways people navigate love, longing, and the painful reality of not being chosen.
So, how do these three people yearn for the love they want?
For Apollo, love seems to come with a lingering fear of eventually being left behind. In a confrontation with Luna, he questions whether she would still choose him once their relationship becomes difficult.
He tells her, “Luna, I know you. Mahihirapan ka pa rin, mapapagod ka. 'Pag nangyari lahat ng ’yon, sa tingin mo, ako pa rin pipiliin mo?”
His question reveals a deeper uncertainty about their relationship — one that goes beyond simply wanting to be loved and asks whether love can survive even life's challenges.
Meanwhile, Gaea finds herself in a different kind of emotional struggle. As the trailer hints at her romance with Apollo, she is also confronted by Luna, creating a moment where Gaea's own feelings become difficult to hide.
“He chose you,” Luna tells Gaea.
But Gaea answers with a painful truth: “He longs for you.”
The exchange adds another layer to the complicated relationship between the three characters, raising the question of what happens when being loved does not necessarily mean being the person someone ultimately chooses.
Luna, on the other hand, grapples with the possibilities of what could have been. Looking back on the chances she and Apollo had throughout the years, she wonders if their missed opportunities were glaring signs towards something greater.
Inside a car with Apollo, she begins to reflect: “We already had our chances, and with every chance that we got, it’s either 'di kita pinili, or…”
Before Luna can finish, Apollo cuts her off: “'Di kita pinili.”
The blunt response leaves another question hanging between them: Is Apollo confronting Luna for never choosing him, or is he simply acknowledging all the chances they failed to take?
After years of missed opportunities, changing circumstances, and feelings that refuse to completely disappear, could there still be something waiting for Apollo and Luna on the other side of their regrets?
