One charming quality about Pinoy food is that it doesn't need to be fancy to hit the spot. Pinoy dishes are loved because of their simplicity and familiarity. But when Anne Curtis says their names or talks about them in that unmistakable twang of hers, suddenly they sound a little more expensive.
But we’re not complaining. We actually love the glow-up. In this Kapamilya Toplist video, we round up all the times Anne accidentally gave Pinoy food a "sosyal" rebrand on “It’s Showtime.”
Sometimes, her descriptions give Pinoy street food an instant upgrade. Case in point: “‘Yung may niyog on top of it, may sesame seeds,” which simply means "palitaw." As Jhong Hilario joked, she talked about it like it was "kahilera ng crème brûlée.”
Or sometimes, the glow-up comes in her fancy accent, like during a 'Laro Laro Pick' episode where the hosts interviewed player Eva about her small halo-halo business. As Vice Ganda enumerated the usual ingredients of a typical Pinoy halo-halo, Anne mentioned she wasn't familiar with "kaong" but she knew "nata de coco"—except she pronounced it as “nata de cohw-cohw,” much to Meme's amusement.
Yup, Anne's 'sosyal' mode always triggers a "violent" reaction from her "sisteret" Vice. Like that time Vice asked what her favorite kind of fish was and Anne answered, “fried fish,” making Vice stop for a beat before firing back, “Sige nga, pumunta ka nga sa palengke maghanap ka ng fried fish, luto na.”
Of course, one iconic example would be the "menudo" moment where Vice and Anne discussed its ingredients. Everything was going fine until Anne casually dropped "capsicum," leaving Vice confused. Anne then explained that capsicum is basically bell pepper, prompting Vice to react, “Ang arte mo! Wala namang ganyan sa karinderia sa amin!”
Anne also accidentally rage-baited Vice when she said homemade “pancit” tastes better with “lots of cheese.” But she was quick to correct herself and explain that she was actually thinking of spaghetti. Seriously, has anyone here tried pancit with lots of cheese? We need to know how that tastes.
Well, Pinoy food has never sounded this “sosyal” and this appetizing at the same time.
