MANILA — Award-winning broadcast journalist Karen Davila opened up about how she hopes to be remembered, saying that the legacy that matters most to her is the love she has given her family.
Speaking on Aiko Melendez's vlog, Davila reflected on the fleeting nature of fame and public recognition, saying that the legacy she values most has nothing to do with her achievements in broadcasting.
"You know, I will be honest, we will all be forgotten. An,g mga Nobel Prize winners hindi nga natin kilala lahat. Ang daming tao na maraming nagawa sa mundo nakakalimutan and that should be humbling for all of us. Hindi ba that's in the Bible, we are like the wind, we are like the grass that withers," she said.

"But the one thing I want to be remembered for is to be a good and loving mother. I will tell you hindi mahalaga lahat, kung makalimutan ako ng fans or whatever... some will remember you and in time generations will come they will forget you. But I want my children to remember me as this -- mahal ako ng nanay ko. My mom loved me, my mom did everything for me, my mom is my best friend. I think that's the most important that your family loves you, that's priceless," said Davila, who has two sons.
Having spent 33 years in broadcasting, Davila also shared some of the most important life lessons she learned from her parents.
"Sinabi ng nanay ko sa akin, 'Karen, kahit wala kaming ipamana sa iyo, kami ng tatay mo na lupa, alahas o pera, basta matapos mo ang edukasyon mo, you can be anything you want to be.' So what I want to share is this, for the girls out there -- chase your dreams not your boyfriend, hindi ba? Finish your education. Habulin niyo ang pangarap niyo. Don't give up your career, your life for men. There's a whole life ahead of you. That's one," Davila said.

She continued: "Then the other thing my dad told me. 'Karen, the only barrier between you and success is you.' The only reason between you and failure is you. Nothing will be served to you on a silver platter. Huwag kang umasa na dapat may mag-alaga sa iyo. Dapat asahan mo ang sarili mo. Be faithful to the purpose God has called you. ... When you put your faith in God and moves to God's purpose, life will be worth it because you know your life is not your own. You have to live the life that God has called you to live."
Davila is considered one of the most respected and recognized broadcast journalists in the country.
