MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday made his way to Samar to inspect the rehabilitation of several facilities that were once damaged by super typhoon Yolanda.
The Chief Executive checked the Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital and its transitional wing, which are expected to serve thousands of patients from the Eastern Visayas island.
“It’s good to see the hospital that rose from the ruins of the original hospital that was completely destroyed by Yolanda,” Marcos Jr. told reporters.
“It’s good to see na ang problema na lang natin is how to increase the manning, yung nurses,” he said.
“We need more nurses para mabuo na yung 50-bed capacity kasi right now nagagamit pa lang nila is 25 beds, but we have a plan how to augment our nurses,” he added.
The hospital is expected to open on October 8.
Meanwhile, Marcos also visited the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) in Catbalogan City, which provides hot meals for those in need.
The WGK’s branch in Samar targets to serve up to 200 meals a day starting in the first week of October.
Aside from food, the facility will also host the DSWD’s “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program” to help students hone their reading and comprehension skills, the Palace said in a statement.
Marcos ended his Samar visit at Camp General Vicente Lukban in Catbalogan City, where he met with the 8th Infantry Division (8ID) and hailed their efforts in keeping Eastern Visayas a “Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS)” area.
