MANILA — Philippine delegates at the United Nations General Assembly joined the walkout to express "global solidarity for peace in the Middle East."
It was earlier reported that Philippine officials joined world leaders in the walk out during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's turn to speak.
Quoting the Department of Foreign Affairs, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro explained the decision.
"The Philippines has joined the walkout in global solidarity for peace in the Middle East and the call for all parties to desist from unilateral actions that erode the conditions of peace and undermine the viability of a future Palestinian state," the DFA said, according to Castro.
"The Philippines is deeply concerned about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and notes with alarm Israel's efforts to advance the E1 settlement plan and the continued rise of settler, violence in the West Bank," the statement added.
"These actions are detrimental to finding a just, lasting and comprehensive solution to the Middle East conflict. The Philippines has always supported the solutions as the viable path to peace in the region” they ended.
DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro led the Philippine representation, and she talked about the country's support for the Palestinian people for self determination during her speech.
Dozens of foreign delegates joined the walk out to protest Israel's continued aggression towards Palestine.
